October 2026 | A Softer Way to Move Through Change
Thoughtful Monthly — a note from Thoughtful Connections, LLC
October often arrives with an interesting tension: the year is moving quickly, expectations start rising, and many of us quietly begin measuring what we have or have not accomplished. This month, I want to offer a different invitation—less pressure, more intention.
You Do Not Have to Rush Your Becoming
Growth does not always look dramatic. Sometimes it looks like pausing before saying yes. Resting without earning it first. Having a difficult conversation instead of avoiding it. Asking for support. Letting a season end without immediately forcing yourself to know what comes next.
If you have spent a long time being dependable, productive, or 'the strong one,' slowing down can feel uncomfortable. But slowing down is not the same as giving up. It can be the space where you finally hear yourself clearly.
A Reflection for This Month
What am I carrying that no longer belongs to me? Where am I asking myself to perform instead of simply be present? What would change if I treated my needs as information instead of inconvenience?
One Small Practice
Choose one area of your life this month where you will practice a gentler pace. Before automatically agreeing, fixing, explaining, or taking responsibility, give yourself a moment to ask: 'Is this mine to carry?' That single pause can create room for a different choice.
What’s Coming at Thoughtful Connections
Registration is open for two January 2027 virtual coaching experiences: When Being the Strong One Is Exhausting begins Tuesday, January 5 at 12:00 PM ET, and Stepping Into Your Next Season begins Wednesday, January 6 at 6:00 PM ET.
Considering Therapy?
Prospective clients can now schedule a free 15-minute consultation directly through the website. The consultation is a brief opportunity to ask questions, learn more about my approach, and decide whether Thoughtful Connections may be a good fit. Please avoid sharing detailed clinical or sensitive health information in the booking form.
Be gentle with yourself this month. You do not need to have every answer in order to keep moving forward.
Warmly, Denitra L. Gaines, LPC, NCC Thoughtful Connections, LLC Counseling with Care
